Nourishing Herbal Infusions

herbalism Nov 15, 2017
Two cups of nourishing herbal infusions does indeed keep the doctor away. For the last year Tami, Niles and I have been consistently drinking Nourishing Herbal Infusions. These are strong water-based herbal extractions that are made with a lot more herb than your standard infusion or tea. I'm talking 1 ounce (or about a cup) of herb to 4-6 cups of hot water and steeped for at least 4 hours. We always steep ours overnight.

While Tami and I enjoy tea and standard infusions regularly, what prompte...

Immunity Bone Broth Recipe

herbalism Oct 27, 2017

With winter and the holidays approaching it is the perfect time to starting thinking about making your own stock. This is our base recipe for homemade, nutrient-rich beef and chicken broth, which is healthier, tastier and way more filling than store-bought stock.

The addition of roots and 'shroom, Astragalus, Burdock, Dandelion and Reishi help support your immunity, improve liver function and much more. While medicinal (as are all herbs and spices), they are mild tasting, yet add to the recipe ...

What Crisis Teaches Us

Uncategorized Oct 27, 2017
The only thing that matters when you are in crisis is how you choose to handle it. Your reaction to your circumstances is the measurement of your evolutionary process.

This is not to say that when you respond with rage, depression, retreat, doubt, judgement or worry that you are somehow not evolved, conscious or “awake.”

It is also not a means of judging yourself harshly when you are going through tough times as if you deserve it or brought it on to yourself.

This is about l...

I AM as the Most Powerful Phrase

Uncategorized Oct 24, 2017

I am is the most powerful phrase that you can say
It declares who you are
Each moment of everyday

Are you depressed?
Are you stressed?
Are you glorious ?
Or victorious?

Choose your words wisely
Cuz karma is notorious
For bringing forth to you
The INTENTION that you choose
Listen to your inner voice
Or else you choose to lose

I am is the most powerful phrase that you can say
It declares who you are
Each moment of everyday

I am peace
I am loyal
I am loving
I am true
Use these words smartly
It will be the ...

DIY Herbal Syrup

Uncategorized Oct 05, 2017

An herbal syrup is a very delicious and quick way to take or administer herbal medicine when you don’t have time to make daily tea or when the herbs are bitter and unpleasant tasting. Syrups are especially good for children or any one who will reject unpalatable medicine, despite its benefits.

Syrups also have a long shelf life, so you can make six month's worth of medicine in an hour! The medicine was made right on time as Tami and I returned from traveling this weekend, feeling depleted with ...

What can you do to remember that you're Whole?

A Mantra on Trust

Uncategorized Sep 08, 2017
I Trust In the Universe Mantra

I trust in the Universe. I trust that all things are conspiring for my highest good.

I've been going through major trust issues with money lately. It's not the big stuff, like sending Niles' to private school, taking a family trip to Cape Verde next year, or even paying off my student loan. I have full faith that those will be taken care of. Where I struggle is with the everyday spending and the small stuff, like going out to dinner.

Last night I was trying to figure out the logic behind th...

3 Month Rule When Working With Plants

Uncategorized Sep 06, 2017

As a general rule, I think it is a good thing when people are introduced to plant medicine and natural remedies. Their capacity for true healing is far greater than what drugs can offer. Using herbs to address common ailments like colds, stomach bugs and rashes on yourself or family members is incredibly empowering and rewarding. We don’t need to rush to the doctor or pharmacy when we have knowledge about the medicinal benefits of plants and how to best apply them to our conditions.

As a profes...

Attitude of Gratitude

Uncategorized Aug 30, 2017
Tami and I were just talking about how much more disposable income we had pre-child. This is by no means a complaint for our Trinity, but real talk, adulting-with-children comes with a tad more financial obligations than that single-married life. Instead of grumbling when it is time to pay bills and make this astronomical student loan payment, I am going to be more intentional with this process and be gracious. I will pay all financial obligations with a smile on my face and gratitude in my hear...

Discipline Is Medicine: The Key To Unlocking Your Self-Care Practice

Uncategorized Aug 22, 2017

Self-care isn’t something you only do when you feel depleted.

Self-care isn’t something you only do when you remember.

Self-care isn’t something to do only in response to negative circumstances.

Self-care isn’t something that you can cram into a weekend, a stay-cation, detox or mental health day.

Self-care also isn’t doing nothing.

Self-care lies in the day-to-day. It is a practice. It is a routine. And it requires discipline. What you consider mundane, self-care says, “commit to me because...
