Sep 26, 2025

Ever wonder why your infusions don’t quite hit the way they should? The secret isn’t just in the herbs—it’s in the method. Specifically: cold vs hot infusion. This isn’t a minor decision. It’s a foundational one that determines what your body actually receives from the plants. In this video, I walk through how herbalists think through this choice, and how your intentions with the plant should always guide your process. Watch here.

But what if you've been boiling away your vitamin C without real...

Percolation Tincture Method: Faster, Stronger Herbalism for Every Herbalist

Sep 02, 2025

If you’ve ever felt stuck waiting weeks for your tinctures to be ready, you’re not alone. Most herbalists start out learning maceration—the folk method that asks you to let herbs sit in alcohol for 4 to 6 weeks, shaking daily, and hoping the results are consistent. But what if I told you there’s another way? A method that lets you make a potent tincture in under 24 hours. That method is percolation.

And here’s the kicker: once you understand it, you may never go back to waiting on slow macerati...

Sound familiar?

If you’re like many of the people I work with, you’ve been told acne is just a cosmetic issue—something to scrub away, dry out, or hide. But here’s the truth: acne is a message from your body. And when you start listening, healing becomes possible.

Roasted Garlic Soup Recipe

Jan 31, 2018
I loooooove this soup! It is savory, creamy and smoky. You would think that adding 5 bulbs (yes bulbs, not cloves) of garlic to any recipe would be overpowering, but nope, not here. Garlic is indeed the star and pre-roasting it in the oven releases the sweetness, so she doesn't taste too pungent or biting.

I make this soup anytime anyone in the house is starting to experience the first symptoms of illness. Colds, runny nose, sore throat, post-nasal drip, upset stomach, sinus congestion, fev...

Nourishing Herbal Infusions

Nov 15, 2017
Two cups of nourishing herbal infusions does indeed keep the doctor away. For the last year Tami, Niles and I have been consistently drinking Nourishing Herbal Infusions. These are strong water-based herbal extractions that are made with a lot more herb than your standard infusion or tea. I'm talking 1 ounce (or about a cup) of herb to 4-6 cups of hot water and steeped for at least 4 hours. We always steep ours overnight.

While Tami and I enjoy tea and standard infusions regularly, what prompte...

Immunity Bone Broth Recipe

Oct 27, 2017

With winter and the holidays approaching it is the perfect time to starting thinking about making your own stock. This is our base recipe for homemade, nutrient-rich beef and chicken broth, which is healthier, tastier and way more filling than store-bought stock.

The addition of roots and 'shroom, Astragalus, Burdock, Dandelion and Reishi help support your immunity, improve liver function and much more. While medicinal (as are all herbs and spices), they are mild tasting, yet add to the recipe ...
