What you will learn

Confidence begins with a framework.

This class is not a list of miracle herbs. It is a clear place to begin making sense of your options, your patterns, and the kind of support you may need.

01

See the whole picture

Learn Selima's step-by-step framework for looking at the body, emotions, daily rhythms, and care choices as one connected system.

02

Choose herbs with intention

Understand why herbs are not one-size-fits-all and how constitution, condition, and context can guide a more thoughtful choice.

03

Work with the right timeline

Explore why long-standing concerns call for a different strategy than short-term, acute needs.

04

Use plants as plants

Move beyond the pill-for-a-symptom mindset and begin building a embodied relationship with herbal medicine.

05

Listen beneath the symptom

Consider how stress, grief, and lived experience may shape the way you feel, without reducing every concern to one simple cause.

06

Build care you can trust

Create a personal care system that supports everyday confidence and helps you recognize when medical support belongs in the plan.

Is this class for you?

You do not need to know every herb. You need a place to start.

Maybe you have been collecting information for years, trying one thing after another, and still wondering how it all fits together. You are not behind. You are ready for a clearer map.

If you want a quick fix or a reason to avoid medical care, this class is not that. If you want to become a more informed, active participant in your wellbeing, you are in the right place.

Clinical practice meets ancestral wisdom

I have been the person searching for another way forward.

I'm Selima Iwilla Harleston Lust, a clinical herbalist, author, medical astrologer, spiritual teacher, and co-founder of Iwilla Remedy. I created the African American Herbalism course at Spelman College and I teach as a Lead Herbalist Educator at Herbal Academy. More than 6,000 students have learned with me.

Before any of that, I was exhausted, inflamed, and getting no real answers from anybody. Nobody handed me a solution. I went looking for one, and what I found became my life's work. It comes from the clinic, from my own body, and from the Black herbal traditions that have carried knowledge, care, and possibility across generations.

“I am here to walk with you as you learn to trust yourself, ask better questions, and remember the healer in your bloodline.”

Why I teach this

The part I do not usually lead with.

In my twenties I was exhausted and inflamed. Chiropractor three times a week, chronic acne, digestive trouble, periods that took me out. Then I got a three-week sinus infection on my honeymoon and I could not pretend anymore. My body was falling apart and the pain was stealing my joy.

About a year into my marriage, something else surfaced that I had spent a very long time not looking at. Childhood trauma I had never processed. I had gotten good at keeping it in a room with the door shut, and that year the door came off the hinges. It almost broke us. I say that out loud because I think a lot of people are holding a door shut somewhere and calling it fine.

Around that same time I knew I wanted to have a baby, and I was afraid. Not the ordinary kind of afraid. I was still in proximity to the person who had harmed me, and every time I imagined carrying a child, I felt this emptying feeling move through my body. Like something was draining out of me. I could not explain it clinically. I only knew my body was telling me something I had been refusing to hear.

So I stopped refusing. I said yes to herbalism, to yoga, to meditation, to mentorship, and to facing what I had been carrying instead of carrying it alone. It was not fast and it was not tidy. Today I have an 11-year-old son.

That journey, physical and emotional and spiritual all at once, is where the CALYPSO Healing Method® came from. It is why I do not teach herbs as a list of remedies. Your symptoms have a story underneath them, and the plants do their best work when you know what the story is.

If any of this sounds like your life, you are not broken and you are not behind. Healing may ask you to remember what your body knows, what your people knew, and what you are capable of learning for yourself. There is a healer in your bloodline. I am here to walk with you until you can see that it is you.
